Don the scientist

Kia ora,

Today we had Don the eel scientist came to talk to us about eels.  He had heaps of information. 


  • If you put your finger in a eels mouth you can't get it back!!
  • They can move backwards and forwards.
  • They have very small teeth.
  • The longest eel was 2 metres long.
  • In the ear bone are rings how many rings there are shows that's how old they are.
  • They eat ducklings maybe crabs and baby birds. 
  • As they eat, they spin around 10 times a second.
  • Females lay 7-20 million eegs. 
  • Long-fins eat other eels.
  • Females are bigger than males.
  • Australian long-fins only found in North Island.
  • Little horns at the top.
